Working Cockers in a Wood - Gundog Photographer York

Freya & Dolly were photographed in their local area near Selby, Yorkshire.

2 Black cocker spaniels working in a woodland with limited light… what a challenge.

Not only are working cocker spaniels faster than lightning, but these two are also black which the camera struggles with to identify as a dog which means eye detection is very random. To add to the challenges the light under the canopy was very limited which meant for high ISO and noisy images. Then to add to that there was no way I could follow these dogs working through the woods whilst looking through the view finder of the camera, so I hand held it using the electronic view finder screen on the back, set the frames per second at 20 and hoped for the best. I ended up with thousands of images by doing this method but I also ended up capturing some fantastic action shots. I am by no means complaining its just that this was very different, fast paced and challenging. I loved every minute :)

When it came to editing I had to use a De Noise software to reduce the noise and applied my usual editing style in Lightroom and Photoshop.

Here are a few from the days shoot.
